Speed Play Rules

The Little Wars TV crew recently played the entire 3-day Gettysburg scenario in a single afternoon, and playing that size engagement with seven players can be daunting. They required a faster version of the game and I set out to design one for this purpose. My design priorities were twofold: (1) Cut the time required to play a large, multi-day battle in half; (2) Keep the core game mechanics intact.

Both priorities are satisfied in the new speed play rules available now. I made a short video explaining how the variant works and what the changes are, but you can download a free copy of this one-page supplement right here on the website. It's under the Free Downloads section, and the PDF link also appears below.

Bit late finding this one Greg, but many thanks for the download. I would like to try this one day at the club, and possibly even at a show.

Hi Greg, Looking forward to giving these a try. My little group came up with a variant about a year ago when we fought a Gettysburg variant based on Pipe Creek using the whole of the Gettysburg orbat plus some additional cavalry. They worked well and we got a result in the day. We'd previously found that because it was difficult to beak units players went HQ hunting. So we simply broke units when they had 3 fatigue markers. To compensate for that we also modified the rally table so that units broke on 0-3 and rallied on 5+. The amendments seemed to work well as the Confederates achieved a resounding victory within the time frame. Of course this may have had something to do with the ineptness of the 3 Union Commanders that included myself!

All the best
