First-time Player Review

So how do first-time players feel about Altar of Freedom? If you'd like to read a nice recap of an Altar of Freedom game written by an independent player, visit Sergio's blog, "Drums & Shakos." He played the Champion Hill scenario with two friends, and they were able to refight the entire battle in three hours--not bad for their very first game!

Sergio's blog report also offers his observations and thoughts about the gameplay. Plus, he has a great blog with lots of other games and eras you may find interesting. He kindly gave me permission to link directly to his blog, so check it out for yourself!

In the scenario book, ALL QUIET ALONG THE POTOMAC, I am confused about the Union deployment in the Battle of Gaines Mill on page 19. It says "A-D 1-3". The map only has grid letters A thru C. I am pretty sure its a typo. I await your guidance. Thanks.

Mitch--Another player has pointed out this error to me, and it is a mistake! My apologies. The Union deployment area should actually read: B-C 2-3.

In Drewrys Bluff scenario the labels for Smith (general & HQ) are missing from the labels page. Is this an error?
Also what does the "?" mean for a subordinate general? What PP does he have? Does he use the Army general's PP?

Yes, this is an error. I will add labels for them on a revised PDF and make a note about that on the Errata. Smith and his HQ should both have their own labels. Any generals rated "?" are Hesitant, and this trait is defined in the Appendix of traits. It means they roll their own D6 at the start of each turn to see how many points they generate. Could be good...could be bad!
