With Sherman's massive force bearing down on Atlanta, orders arrived from Richmond to elevate John B. Hood to command the Confederate Army of Tennessee. A mere two days after his appointment, Hood launched a furious counter-attack as part of the Federal army crossed Peachtree Creek. Would it be too little, too late to save Atlanta?
